Giving Thanks

Take time to tell the people who support you how much you appreciate them

This is a great time of year.

The fall season is winding down; the holidays are approaching, but still far enough away to not be causing too much stress yet (hopefully). Football season is in full swing.

It’s a time when most of us can slow down a little. And what better time is there than this to remember everything and everyone we’re thankful for?

Gratitude is something you probably feel in small doses on a daily basis, but how often do you take the time to give someone a truly heartfelt thank-you for all they do for you?

Showing people you appreciate them should be done more often, but it’s nice that we have a holiday solely dedicated to giving thanks for all we have. Thanksgiving serves as a nice reminder to show important people in your life some appreciation, and when that’s accompanied by great food and football, what’s not to love?

I’ve been the editor of Cleaner for nearly a year, and I am so thankful for all the help I’ve received over that time as I navigated this new role and got accustomed to different responsibilities. From my mentor to my proofreader, I wouldn’t be able to get this magazine into your hands each month without some help, and I’m incredibly grateful for all of them.

I’m also blessed with wonderful family members, many of whom live close enough to me that I see them on a regular basis. They are always there for me, something I try to never take for granted.

Both in your personal life and especially in your business, it’s so important to have some sort of network of support around you — your success usually depends on it. Even if you are a one-man shop, that is still true; your support might just look a little different. Maybe you rely on your regional equipment dealer for insight on industry trends, or the plumber who refers jobs to you. Or maybe your support comes solely from people not involved in your business.

Whether you work solo, for a small family business where you have known everyone for years or for a large company where you’re still learning everyone’s name, surrounding yourself with people you can depend on is so important. Not only does it make life easier, it will probably make you happier as well.

No matter what your situation, that network of support needs to be shown some appreciation. Any relationship needs some work once in a while. No one enjoys being taken for granted.

So let those people who support you know how thankful you are that they play such an important role in your life. You don’t need to make any grand gestures. Just point out something specific you appreciate and say “thank you.” A little acknowledgment can go a long way.

I’d also like to say thank you to all of you. Your continued readership and support of this magazine is much appreciated.

I hope you enjoy this month’s issue.
