The options for business advertising are plentiful. One of the most common for plumbing and drain cleaning companies is making use of the vehicles and equipment they already own and rely on every day.

“Vinyl graphics and advertising on your vehicle is probably your best investment compared to newspaper ads, periodicals and things like that where you’re getting charged every single time you put that advertisement out there,” says Rodney Roeda, director of sign and vehicle production with ROEDA. “If you have vehicle graphics on all your trucks, you basically have a traveling billboard you only pay for once.”

Here’s a look at how some companies approach the design of their rolling billboards.

Frasier’s Plumbing and Heating, Inc., Rhinelander, Wisconsin

When it came time to develop a logo or brand for Frasier’s Plumbing and Heating, owners Phil and Joanna Frasier got some help from Phil’s mom, Joan. She came up with the idea for a rubber duck in 2003. There were conversations about putting the duck in a tuxedo, but the Frasier’s team settled on a duck with a uniform shirt. Phil then developed the slogan “Considerate People, Considerate Service, Consider it Done.” Joan’s idea behind the duck was simple. As she put it, “everyone loves a duck, especially a little happy duck.” The slogan and the duck are on all of the company’s 19 service vehicles, including the parts-running vehicles and the install trailer.

T ‘N G Plumbing, Dexter, Minnesota

When husband and wife Todd and Gina Grundmeier were developing the name and logo for their company T ‘N G Plumbing, they didn’t have to look too far, taking the first letters of their first names. “Marriage and work aren’t always a great combination for sure, but we work hard to make ourselves shine in both areas of our lives,” says Gina. On this 2021 Ford Transit high extended van, Todd and Gina chose to highlight some of the brands they install, including WaterSoft and A. O. Smith. They also included Delta’s logo because the manufacturer was a sponsor for the couple’s annual charity project Pay It Forward.

Boston Standard Company, Mattapan, Massachusetts

When Joseph Wood, owner of Boston Standard Company, was looking at vehicles, he wanted something that could be a mobile showroom. The company selected the 2021 Ford Transit 250 Mid-Roof because of space and technician comfort. The larger pallet serves the new and innovative ways the company delivers direct product options to customers. Boston Standard Company is gradually transitioning its 31-vehicle fleet over to the van. Wood, who is drawn to classic designs because of simplicity and recognition, along with a designer friend came up with the logo and wrap design.

Aspen Mountain Plumbing, Rock Springs, Wyoming

Aspen Mountain Plumbing has a unique truck that stands out not only for its different look, but also because the colors say “Wyoming.” The company uses the same colors as the only four-year university in Wyoming. The logo, a gold leaf (in the shape of an aspen tree leaf) also incorporates a wrench and water droplet. Owners Lance and Kelli Ball had the rebranding done in 2019.

A Perfect Plumbing Solution, Arroyo Grande, California

It might not be the “newest” truck on the road, but a truck that was added to A Perfect Plumbing Solution’s fleet recently is new to the company. For the past four years, owner Paul Karp has been working on this GMC 2500 V-Eight from the 1970s. The final piece of the puzzle was completing a transmission upgrade so that he could get it on the freeway and go from job to job. Karp opened his company in 2007 and crafted the logo on the side of the truck — and on all of his other service vehicles — in 2017.

A&A Plumbing Company, Bahama, North Carolina

Wallace Chambers takes huge pride in his service vehicle, a 2017 GMC Savana 3500 Express Van, and his customers take notice of it too as he gets many compliments on it. The wrap on it — a splash of water on the bottom third of the van, a pipe on the back side of it and big bold lettering on the side — was designed and installed by Graphix Solutions in Cary, North Carolina.
