When an inspection reveals a fracture in a property owner’s sewer line, the last thing a technician wants to do is wait for approval to make the repair. The upgraded P330+ flexiprobe digital inspection cameras from Pearpoint, a Radiodetection brand, have Bluetooth wireless capability that enables technicians to e-mail inspection images to customers, says Tom Schmandt, general manager.
The system includes a 1-inch adjustable-focus color camera for 1- to 4-inch pipes or a 2-inch fixed-focus color camera for 2- to 6-inch pipes. Both are made of stainless steel and are equipped with LED lights. The 2-inch camera is self-leveling, and the 1-inch camera lets users rotate transmitted images so that they are easier to view.
Digital technology enables the P330+ cameras to transmit sharper images to the command module’s 8-inch color monitor (2 inches larger than its predecessor). The module also lets users pause, zoom in and out and pan while watching the inspection, providing better views of problem areas. The splash-proof keypad is designed for easy outdoor operation, even if the user is wearing gloves.
Users can capture still-picture images at the press of a button. The unit includes a 2-gigabyte Compact Flash card, twice as big as the prior model’s card. An available 8-gigabyte card can store seven hours of video. The cards enable technicians to download video onto a PC or laptop computer via an included USB cable.
With an integrated easy-report writer function, operators can create comprehensive reports in the field. The report can be edited onsite, then recorded onto a Flash Card for mobility and transmission. Universal brush skid sets enable users to adapt the camera quickly to different pipe diameters.
The flexiprobe series offers compact reels on wheels in three sizes, starting with a mini-reel with 115 feet of push rod instead of the typical 100 feet. It weighs about 24 pounds. “Customers told us that every so often they need 105 or 110 feet of push rod, so we made this one a little longer,” Schmandt notes.
A standard reel carries 200 or 400 feet of push rod and weighs 40 or 55 pounds, and a large specialist reel carries 500 feet of push rod and weighs 74 pounds. All camera components, controllers, rods and accessories are interchangeable.
