The steering ability of the DRY BORE-4 lets crews steer the bore path to curve around existing underground utilities, dive beneath waterways and thread through challenging rock formations. It is designed to install underground service lines up to 4 inches in diameter. It provides 3,000 ft-lbs of rotational torque and 20 tons of push force. These capabilities make it ideal for expanding or replacing aging water mains and sewer networks, which often requires navigating dense urban grids or sensitive ecosystems. It can be used to install potable water lines, force mains and even precision gravity sewers beneath highways, rivers and commercial districts. This trenchless approach prevents massive traffic disruptions and the costly surface restorations associated with ripping up miles of asphalt. “Our research and development with this unit was a 15-month process,” says Herrick. “Basically, we saw a need in the industry because, in our eyes, steerable HDD tech was falling short.
