Epoxy resin pipe lining offers numerous benefits over traditional pipe replacement, including cost-effectiveness, reduced disruption, durability and environmental friendliness. But once the parts of the lining material are mixed, your crew is on the clock. When the epoxy begins to harden — whether applied or not — it is no longer usable, which can lead to waste.

FORMADRAIN recently launched Durapox 201 to combat that issue. It is a steam-cured, latent epoxy resin designed for mainlines with an unparalleled 60-day open time that eliminates the need for refrigeration or temperature management. According to Carl Marc-Aurèle, FORMADRAIN vice president, that alone makes the crew’s job easier.

“It takes away 100% of the stress of a liner going off in the truck before it is installed as it will not cure for 60 days at ambient temperature,” Marc-Aurèle says. “It is completely styrene-free and has the advantages of UV-cured resin, but is designed as a direct replacement to polyesters without the extra investment.”

This versatile solution works with felt and felt/fiberglass hybrid tubes and ensures high-quality cures without any blisters, guaranteeing completely reliable cures. Styrene- and VOC-free, it is safe for installation in storm drains and culverts.

“All CIPP can use Durapox 201, but storm sewer and culverts are the best fit, because some DOTs have started looking for an eco-friendly alternative to classic CIPP resins,” Marc-Aurèle says.

Using the product is simple. Just pour Part B into Part A and mix with a mixing blade for approximately 30 minutes. All the powder should be incorporated for the mix to be considered complete. Like most FORMADRAIN products, the resin is cured with saturated steam. According to Marc-Aurèle, Durapox 201 was in development for 5 years and is the 66th formulation tested.

“It really fills a hole in the market,” he says. “There is no other steam-cured epoxy with latency available for safer culvert and storm sewer lining.”

Marc-Aurèle says he is encouraged by the feedback so far.

“Our goal has always been to make no-dig repairs for mainlines simpler, faster and more reliable,” he says. “Durapox 201 does just that, maximizing uptime for wet-out equipment and optimizing job schedules. Customers absolutely love it and wonder how they lived without it before.”
