Facing a hard deadline – the start of the school year – an elementary school rehabilitated over 700 feet of cracked and corroded cast iron pipes with UV CIPP, all before the kids showed up for their first day.

The Texas elementary school, built in the 1970s, found itself grappling with persistent plumbing issues stemming from its aging infrastructure. Past experiences with piecemeal pipe replacements left them all too aware of the disruptive nature and financial strain such projects could impose. They opted for regular maintenance and drain cleaning services on average two times per month to avoid the potential cost, destruction and inconvenience associated with a complete pipe replacement. Then they met a NuFlow Certified Contractor who shared with them the benefits of trenchless pipelining as a long-term solution to their ongoing problems.

A camera inspection of the cast iron infrastructure revealed widespread issues, including channel rot, multiple cracks, decay and corrosion. When the contractor presented these findings along with a detailed plan to revitalize the pipes with UV cured-in-place-pipe lining, the school board swiftly approved the project.

Once complete, the team successfully rehabilitated over 700 feet of 2-, 3- and 4–inch cast iron pipes within the school’s infrastructure. They finished the project ahead of schedule and well in advance of the return of students and staff for the new academic year. Since the project’s conclusion, there have been no reported instances of drain clogs, a testament to the effectiveness of the trenchless pipelining solution.

NuFlow’s NuCure Cold Cure UV lining system maximized the contractors’ efficiency by densely curing liners in just 10 minutes. By drastically reducing the cure times, it allowed the contractor to line more pipes per day with the same precision pull-in-place accuracy for inside the building applications. A field-tested solution for over three years, NuCure CCUV has been a hit with NuFlow Certified Contractors all over the country. Frank Rucco from Pipe Restoration Solutions explains, “We’re doing two or three jobs in the same time that it used to take us to do one job. In the end, we’re capturing more revenue.”

Faster cure times also affords NuFlow contractors more control over their scheduling and ease on the job site. Lindsey Rushing, from Peerless Plumbing/NuDrain Phoenix says, “We get so much more done now and we don’t have to worry about 10-hour days. We can pack up and go home without any overtime.”

Since UV resin is light activated, the installer does not need to race the clock to get a liner in place. Crews are free to work without fear of premature curing while getting more pipes lined in a shorter amount of time. Aaron Simpson from I Fix Pipe agrees and adds, “We were going to add another crew, but then we got NuCure CCUV. UV helped us to scale with labor shortages in the area. That crew is doubling the output, so I didn’t need another lining crew.”
