Thursday, Sept. 28 is World Trenchless Day, an annual global celebration that began in 2016 that aims to shine a spotlight on the many benefits of trenchless technology.

Visit worldtrenchlessday.org for more information. And here are a few ideas on how to get involved:

Host a World Trenchless Day party or networking event. If you’re a manufacturer, contractor or engineering firm, gather your co-workers, invite your customers, invite your neighbors and plan a get-together. Schools or professional associations can do a lunch-and-learn program or an after-hours networking event. The choice is yours. Have fun with it and promote trenchless technology.

Host a site visit or open house. Maybe a party isn’t your style. Instead, host an open house or project site visit. Invite local elected officials and policy-makers and let them get an up-close look at what trenchless technology is all about.

Release a research paper or report. Since World Trenchless Day is all about educating people on trenchless technology and its benefits, a great method is releasing a report or paper focused on the topic.

Write an op-ed. Working in this industry, we are all well aware of the state of the world’s underground infrastructure or, in some places, the lack thereof. Write to your local newspaper and explain the situation and how trenchless technology can play a pivotal role in the work that needs to be done.

Engage the next generation. Schools around the world are pushing the importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) curriculum. Visit a high school, career tech center or college and discuss how each of the components fits within the trenchless industry.

Participate on social media. Social media is ubiquitous today and it’s a fun and easy way to spread the word about trenchless technology. When posting your World Trenchless Day news and photos, use the hashtags #GoTrenchless and #WorldTrenchlessDay.

Be creative. You’re not limited to this list. The primary goal of World Trenchless Day is to get everyone in the industry involved and engaged in promoting trenchless technology. If you come up with a unique way of doing that, share it with your peers.
