The use of recycled water isn’t just a positive public relations talking point anymore. The ability to recycle water in a combination sewer cleaner can be a huge money saver and timesaver for utility service crews, as not only do fewer tanks of freshwater need to be purchased to run through the unit, but also crews no longer need to leave the work site for refills. Vac-Con’s Recycler combination machine brings those abilities to the utility landscape.

Vac-Con has integrated its proven combination machine technology with a recycling system that includes a two-stage water filtration system with stainless steel first-stage filter for removal of large particulates. The second-stage filter is self-cleaning and features a high-pressure backflush at 2,000 psi.

“The recycling system creates a massive reduction in freshwater usage and increased time on the work site, with not having to constantly stop to go get water,” says James Dolan, a sales technician with Vac-Con. “To give you an idea of the numbers, it’s 3% of your standard usage.”

The Recycler boasts water flows of 50 to 80 gpm. Water pressure can be activated or deactivated, regardless of system revolutions per minute, due to a hydraulic control located at the control panel. During recycling, water is used from the debris tank directly and doesn’t enter the freshwater system. Freshwater and recycled water are completely separate and isolated from one another. “The unit doesn’t have to filter down the recycled water as fine, so there’s less chance of clogging,” Dolan says.

The Recycler can operate as a traditional combination machine by turning the recycling feature off, which gives the unit a wide range of applications. It is available in a dual- or single-engine configuration. The debris tank is offered in 11-, 12- or 16-yard options. Freshwater capacity is offered up to 1,000 gallons.

“The Recycler is the machine that operators have been waiting for,” says Todd Masley, Vac-Con’s executive vice president. “We began this product design by first understanding what the customers in the field required and, consequently, what other recycling machines on the market lacked. The timesavings and efficiencies the recycling feature produces will bring year-round savings.” 904-284-4200; www.vac-con.com.
