Ford Road Before and After

Problem: The Northwestern Water and Sewer District in Perrysburg Township faced an urgent challenge: the existing Ford Road Pump Station, built in the 1960s, was reaching the end of its service life. It was undersized for the growing community’s sanitary sewer needs, relied on outdated steel-can-style construction, and required hard-to-find repair parts. The District needed a modern solution that could meet current and future demand while avoiding costly maintenance and corrosion issues.

Solution: A new $7 million, 22- by 22- by 50-feet-deep pump station was constructed across from the existing site. To protect the new structure from the start, the District engaged Advanced Rehabilitation Technology (ART) to install an internal lining system using OBIC’s Concrete Primer and Armor Lining System.

The process included:

  • Hydroblasting with a 38,000 psi washer to prepare the substrate
  • Applying OBIC’s concrete primer to ensure strong adhesion
  • Installing a three-layer OBIC Armor lining system on walls and floor
  • Finishing with a seamless ceiling lining after lid installation and curing
  • Conducting rigorous inspections to eliminate voids or thin spots

Result: By lining the new pump station before it went into service, the District saved significantly on bypassing costs and ensured long-term durability. The OBIC Armor system created a seamless, monolithic waterproof membrane that protects against both groundwater infiltration and hydrogen sulfide corrosion. With an expected service life of 50-plus years and a 10-year warranty, the system ensures Perrysburg Township’s largest pump station will reliably serve the community well into the future.
