To say that Brent and Adrienne McDonald are competitive might be an understatement. The husband and wife team running Rub-A-Dub Plumbing in Tyler, Texas, has real drive. Literally in Adrienne’s case.
As a member of the University of South Carolina golf team, Adrienne was named All-SEC first team as well as an Academic All-American. She then played the LPGA Futures circuit for several years and currently is competing there as a long-drive competitor, leading the tour with a drive of 334 yards. An impressive distance for a golf drive, or the CIPP lining of a sewer.
The 44-year-old’s drive off a tee is matched by her zeal in the business world.
“Being a competitive athlete has absolutely played a role in how I manage,” Adrienne says. “This mentality has made me persevere and be tenacious. I have a strong desire to achieve and I have a strong desire for others to believe in themselves.
“Brent is just as ambitious,” she adds. “We work well together.”
They also do fitness training together. After all, the couple first met when Brent enrolled in Adrienne’s karate class.
“We’re actually preparing for a bodybuilding show at the moment,” Adrienne says. “We want to be the best examples for others.”
This is what you call a power couple. Today, they are also powering their small plumbing outfit into a larger full-service plumbing and pipe lining company.
A key objective of Adrienne’s role in the company — she calls herself dream manager — is helping employees reach their potential as individuals and team members.
“I try to help them understand that there are opportunities for each of them if they set goals and stay the course,” she says. “I try to help them create dreams that they can achieve. We want what is best for our team, our families and the community.”
