His official job title is “commercial diving contractor,” but this 14-year industry veteran says he’s never worked a day in his life.

Brendan Walsh, who was featured in the Daily Mail — one of the United Kingdom’s largest newspapers — runs East West Dive and Salvage out of Port Melbourne, Australia, and says “poo diving” (as they call it Down Under) has been quite lucrative. Perhaps that’s because there’s not much competition, and it’s easy to understand why.

“It’s definitely not for the faint-hearted,” Walsh says. “It’s more thick than normal diving, and you can’t see anything no matter what. It’s more like walking than swimming when you get down there.”

Walsh’s business specializes in working in underwater, wet or confined spaces, according to the company’s website. The company provides scheduled maintenance or emergency repairs that include underwater construction, tank inspections, pressure cleaning and underwater welding. The East West Dive and Salvage website says the company considers "contaminated diving," such as at wastewater treatment plants, to be one of its specialties and they "usually have at least one dive team working somewhere in Australia on any given day."

“I love my job and always have,” he says. “I’m a passionate diver from way back, and I’m a mechanic. I’ve never worked a day in my life because I combine my passions. You can’t do a job well unless you love it.”
