Cleaning + Get AlertsEveryone in this industry has stories about clearing roots out of pipes. One such story making the rounds at the moment is from David Hall of The Clean Plumber in Australia, notable for the size of the root growth.
When Hall was called out recently to a home in Newport — a suburb of Sydney — because of a flooding incident, he discovered a 15-foot-long clump of tree roots in a storm pipe.
“I used a CCTV camera to inspect the drains and was totally shocked at the extent of the tree root infestation,” Hall said to Newsweek.
He believes the roots had been growing in the pipe for more than 10 years. It took Hall about eight hours to remove the blockage, which was the worst root infestation he’s seen in his 37-year career.
“I tried to grab hold of it and pull it out but it was too strong for me,” he told Newsweek. “ … when I was finally able to pull them out it was over 4 meters in length and looked like an anaconda.”
