To mark this season of giving, it’s appropriate to highlight plumber James Anderson, even though he’s based in England, where the American holiday of Thanksgiving is not celebrated.

Anderson, 52, made news in September when an invoice on a boiler repair for a 91-year-old woman with leukemia went viral. On the invoice showing zero balance due Anderson wrote, “No charge for this lady under any circumstances. We will be available 24 hours to help her and keep her as comfortable as possible.”

That kind of generosity has been the norm for Anderson’s company, Depher, which has been providing heavily discounted or free plumbing and heating service for those in need since 2017. Anderson’s work is largely covered through crowdfunding and donations.

At the moment, Anderson is ramping up that charitable spirit for the winter. He’s looking to raise £30,000 ($38,733) in order to offer services to 1,000 households in need.

“Many elderly people struggle to pay their heating bills and, if their boiler goes, they might not be able to afford to get it fixed, meaning they are left freezing. I urge people to donate to our campaign so we can help as many vulnerable people as possible,” he told the London Economic.
