The trade and barter system was once the center of commerce. And it still occasionally makes an appearance in modern society.
No update yet on whether it was successful, but recently Wisconsin plumber and Milwaukee Brewers fan Jon Moser attempted to acquire four World Series tickets by offering his plumbing skills in exchange. Moser and wife Natasha own N & J Plumbing out of West Allis, Wisconsin. Natasha posted on social media: “Alright throwing it out there … my husband is a licensed master plumber with 25+ years of experience in SE WI … anyone interested in a trade swap for tickets?!?!!! Specializes in resi remodels and service work! Message me!”
For the first World Series games in Milwaukee in nearly a half-century, even standing-room-only tickets were commanding prices in the thousands.
“We wanted to save up for the World Series, and as the tickets came up, they were just extremely expensive,” Jon told Milwaukee news station Fox 6. “My wife was like, would you be interested in swapping labor? And I’m like absolutely! Like why not do that. If I can give back some of my talent and skill to someone … this way maybe I help their vision for their home that they are creating. For me and my family it’s all about experiences.”
At the time of the Fox 6 story, Moser had received some interest on his offer, but nothing had been finalized yet. Even if it didn’t end up happening, the Mosers had backup plans of hosting a World Series watch party at their home.
And I think just the fact that there was interest showcases the value of the skills people in this industry possess. It’s perhaps unusual but not outlandish to do a trade of plumbing services for World Series tickets. In fact, it could be argued that the person receiving the plumbing services would be getting the better end of the deal.
