In 1992, John Johnson began to build the brand that is Water Works Plumbing in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Jetters Northwest is proud to have become a part of his success. For John Johnson, slow growth was the key ingredient in building the proper foundation for Water Works Plumbing. Jetters Northwest featured Johnson as the December 2016 Customer of the Month. Read on for more about Johnson’s search for a jetter and how the purchase changed his business.

Please give an overview of your company, i.e. date established, growth pattern, service niches, type of work, philosophy or mission statement, vision for the future, etc.?
The company was established in 1992. We do plumbing repair and remodel only, no new construction. We experienced slow growth, starting as a one-man shop and growing to the three-to-five-truck range. We specialize in pipe bursting sewer replacements but still perform all other types of residential and commercial service. I’m focused on net-dollar growth rather than number-of-trucks growth. Our philosophy is: “We won’t quit till your water works.” We want to continue to provide quality of life improvements for our customers and employees while strengthening our company as a whole.

Please summarize your search for a jetter: your situation, wants, needs, etc.?
I spent six months or more shopping and asking other contractors for feedback. We needed to be able to work small residential lines up to 6-inch clay commercial lines with heavy root intrusion. I initially thought the Brute would fit the bill but the lack of water storage worried me. I decided on the Eagle 200; it seemed like the perfect balance of features per dollar.

What similar equipment had you already owned?
We did not previously own a jetter.

How did you first hear about Jetters Northwest?
I was referred by several other contractors who have been very happy with the Brute, and with JNW service after the sale.

What were the major factor(s) in choosing Jetters Northwest?
Specs vs. price; technical knowledge of the salespeople involved; the salesperson being honest about their limitations; and recommendations from other contractors all were factors.

How has your Jetters Northwest equipment improved your business?
The equipment opened the door to higher revenue jobs we would have otherwise passed on. The jetter provides a less labor-intensive method for drain maintenance we were already performing.

What has been the key to the success and growth of your business?
Being willing to change and advance in techniques and equipment (cameras, locators, pipe bursting, hydro jetting, etc.) and searching out opportunities to learn from everyone and everything. I found mentors, and follow their advice. I surround myself with people smarter than me … starting with my wife, Donna.

What makes your business different from others in the industry?
Our insistence on solving every problem and making everyone better off for being in contact with our company and employees.

What is most important to you in choosing a vendor or service provider for your business?
Dependability and capability (not always in that order).

How has your overall experience been with Jetters Northwest?
They get me what I need, when I need it, every time I call.
