The RD Flex 3000 (43,500 psi) self-rotating surface preparation tool from Hammelmann Corp. is designed for use with manually operated waterblasting guns.

Rotation speed can be changed from 1,000 to 4,000 rpm using the 10 brake settings for various surface applications without changing the nozzle holder and inserts. An adapter enables the head to be used at 10,000 psi and 20,000 psi, offering three cleaning options in one tool. “You can tune it to the type of cleaning that you’re trying to do, whether it’s removing a rubber liner or removing paint,” says Bill O’Briant, sales representative/manager.

Flow rates, depending upon model and nozzle insert size, range from 2.3 to 5.3 gpm. The low-maintenance tool offers up to 1,500 hours of service. “Basically, you only need to change out one seal from time to time,” O’Briant says. The 3.9-pound tool (including nozzle carrier and inserts) measures 9.29 inches long and 2.91 inches in diameter. It has an aluminum outer housing and stainless steel guard with stainless steel swivel.

Made of low-wear, leak-free rotating components, it includes an internal protected brake, quick-change seal system, and plastic protective sleeve. Nozzle inserts (Type P, K and T) are countersunk in the nozzle carrier, protected by a blastback shield.

The tool is available in five nozzle styles (3001, 3002, 3003, 3004 and 3005). All models have an operating pressure of 43,500 psi. Model 3001 is designed for use with pumps rated from 73 to 100 hp. The other four are designed for use with pumps rated from 94 to 160 kW.

Models 3002 and 3003 have differing flat surface preparation nozzle arrangements. The 3004 is used primarily for concrete removal and Model 3005 is shaped to strip paint from within the corners of structural steel. Type P and Type K (3004 concrete removal tool only) steel/sapphire inserts are rated for 100 hours of use, while the Type T steel/diamond insert offers longer life. 800/783-4935; www.hammelmann.com.
