The Gen-Eye SD inspection system from General Pipe Cleaners is designed to provide all the capabilities of a full-size system in a compact, portable package. It is designed to troubleshoot 3- to 10-inch lines, but it can be mounted on a mini reel to view 2- to 4-inch lines.

The system uses an SD card – the same as in a digital camera – and the recording medium. “Camera monitor packages have tended to be rather big and heavy,” says Marty Silverman, vice president of marketing. “Contractors told us they wanted lighter and more compact systems.

“An SD card fits the bill. It provides the features of a system with a hard drive, but in a package that is lighter, more compact, and less expensive.”

The card can be used to record video or still images. A 1-GB card records about two hours of video. In addition to compact size, the SD card makes it easy for a user to copy the data, give a copy to the customer, and keep the master, Silverman says.

The system includes an 8-inch LCD color monitor, full keyboard for on-screen titling, on-screen distance counter, built-in voice over unit, date and time stamp, picture inverter, LED dimmer control, camera test port, and AC and DC power cords. Everything fits in a padded case. The monitor, which weighs 10 pounds, can stand alone or mount on a reel to create a complete, integrated unit.

The self-leveling color camera with internal 512-Hz transmitter automatically keeps pictures right-side up as the camera travels through the line. The fully adjustable docking arm mounts onto a large-capacity reel loaded with Gel-Rod pushrod, designed to protect against moisture damage if the rod is cut or abraded.

Its Kevlar braid, fiberglass core, and durable sheath maximize pushing and pulling power. The standard reel holds up to 400 feet of pushrod on a compact frame. The mini reel carries up to 200 feet of pushrod.

Skids keep the camera centered in the pipe for a better view, while reducing drag on longer runs. Standard systems include 3- and 6-inch trap skids that protect the camera from abrasion as it slides through cast-iron traps. A three-in-one skid set for 4-, 6- and 8-inch lines and Universal Roller Skid for 6- to 12-inch lines are also available. For information: 800/245-6200; www.drainbrain.com.
