John Stoneman Sr., designer of the PipeHunter line of municipal sewer equipment, died Dec. 30, 2008, at age 70. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty E. Stoneman. Born June 4, 1938, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Stoneman pioneered the 5-in-1 backhoe for Long Manufacturing and founded South College Garage in Lubbock, Texas; Park Florist in Dallas; ESSI in Hurst, Texas; Chris-Craft of Clear Lake, Texas; Sunshine Sanitation of Houston; Coastal Contractors in LaPorte, Texas; and Underground Inc. in Pearland, Texas, where he developed the PipeHunter line of equipment.
