A Truck Body Designed for Technician Productivity

Wasting time searching for a part or tool and traveling back to the shop cuts into profits and causes frustration.

A crammed, unorganized service truck is the bane of any technician. Wasting time searching for a part or tool and traveling back to the shop cuts into profits and causes frustration.

The Hackney Performer DC/2000 service body (P/2000 for plumbers) is designed to help create an organized and efficient environment. “With flat-rate pricing, you must have as much inventory onboard as possible,” says Mike Pearson, national sales manager of special applications for Hackney, a division of VT Specialized Vehicles Corp. (VT SVC). “That way, you won’t need to make extra trips and lose your profit on the job.”

Measuring 84 inches wide and 12 1/2 feet long with 75 inches of headroom, the DC/2000 makes efficient use of space. The shelving setup frees space in front of the truck for larger items such as sewer machines or jetters. It can be ordered with a roll-up side door for access to hose reel storage. Two sections in the rear allow for water tank storage.

Full-width, double swing-out rear doors, which include spring rod retainers that hold them open at 90 degrees, offer easy access to storage shelves. The shelves, 18 inches deep for drain cleaners and 23 inches deep for plumbers, are mounted on aluminum tracks and are infinitely adjustable.

“All you have to do is loosen four bolts and you can move a shelf wherever you want it,” Pearson says. “Plastic storage trays rest inside the shelves like drawers in a dresser, with a one-inch retainer lip on the aisle side. Each tray has adjustable dividers that allow for up to nine compartments. There’s no wasted space.”

Above the shelves on each side, pipe and ladder racks provide room for 10-foot pipe sections and ladders. The truck comes with removable exterior 20-foot pipe racks. Three 7-inch dome lights provide interior lighting. A translucent ceiling is available.

“We went to a lot of trouble to make it easy to get in and out of the vehicle,” Pearson says. A drop frame at the back of the chassis creates a three-step entrance. The drop frame also creates space to store a slide-out, non-skid ramp for moving heavy items.

The all-aluminum remountable body is corrosion resistant and has double-wall construction for the sides and a double-layer roof with insulation. Smooth, flat exterior side panels offer unobstructed room for graphics. “People who buy these trucks are very image conscious, so it’s designed to look great going down the road, with space for real nice graphics,” Pearson notes. “It’s a rolling billboard.” For information: 800/763-0700 or www. hackneyplumbing.com.
